Raising A Reader MA is one of an elite group of Boston-area nonprofit organizations awarded The Giving Common Early Adopter Seal for being among the first organizations to recognize the power of The Boston Foundation’s new online nonprofit database. The Giving Common, launched at a special ceremony at the JFK Library on May 30th, is intended to expand donors’ understanding of the diverse range of nonprofits serving the greater Boston area. Here donors can learn about nonprofits that serve their specific geographic, social, or population interests. Raising A Reader MA’s Giving Common profile includes financial data pulled from Guidestar, details on staff and board leadership, and offers donors the opportunity to make a gift to Raising A Reader MA.
While Raising A Reader MA’s efforts to close the academic achievement gap by helping families develop, practice, and maintain habits of reading together at home does not fit within The Boston Foundation’s current giving priorities. But this doesn’t mean the thousands of individuals, families and foundations that manage their philanthropic dollars through The Boston Foundation aren’t interested in early literacy as a strategy for social change.
We are pleased to be an early adopter of The Giving Common platform, and invite you to browse our Giving Common page to learn more about the work and impact Raising A Reader MA is having on children, families, and communities across the Commonwealth.
