Pilgrims, Patriots and Presidents: Day four on Holden A. Book's road trip to the Boston Book Festival

Raising A Reader MA’s Spokespal, Holden A. Book, ended Day Three of his literary and historic road trip dreaming of Pilgrims while at the National Seashore. On Day Four he started to head north again, with the goal of being in Boston for the Book Festival on Saturday, October 27th. So what did he see en route to Boston today?

A brief stop at Plymouth Rock starts Holden's fourth day of his literary and historic road trip across Massachusetts.

21. Plymouth, MA – Plymouth Rock: “That’s it? I thought it would be bigger,” thought Holden A. Book as he peered into the portico to catch a glimpse of the fabled cornerstone of America. He took a spin of Plymouth Harbor and then headed West to visit…

22. New Bedford, MA – New Bedford Whaling Museum:  Family-friendly activities like “Melville Family Day” and “Exploring a 19th Century Whaling Village,” kept Holden A. Book busy for the morning. He found a kid-friendly version of Moby Dick, which he tucked into his back before heading north for…

23. Foxboro, MA – Gillette Stadium: So Gillette isn’t a literary, or even a historic site in Massachusetts. But, Holden A. Book couldn’t resist a visit to the home of the New England Patriots and the New England Revolution. As he passed up route 1 he tipped his hat to our friends at the Rodman Ride for Kids and P&G Gillette, which has sponsored Raising A Reader MA‘s work with homeless children and families in Boston.

24. Milton, MA – Blue Hills Reservation: A petting zoo, weather station, and all you can pick wild blueberries are among the features in this DCR Park. Holden, having tired of indoor historic sites, stretched his legs with a hike around Ponkapoag before he returned to 93 North.

25. Quincy, MA – John Adams’ Birthplace: Local historian and biographer David McCullough repopularized the Adams National Historic Site in Quincy. A series of historic sites, made accessible by a trolley tour, took Holden A. Book through the home and farms of America’s second and sixth presidents and founding fathers John Adams and John Quincy Adams. Nearly historied out, Holden finishes his journey north and stops at…

26. Boston, MA – Boston Children’s Museum:  Surrounded by the art and stories of Marc Brown, Holden A. Book climbed, learned and played until the museum closed at 5:00 PM. “Just one day to explore Boston before the Book Festival on Saturday,” murmured Holden sleepily as he ended his day.
