Day Five is over! Raising A Reader MA’s Spokes Buddy, Holden A. Book, wrapped up his five day road trip across the Commonwealth touring some of Boston’s most popular, kid-friendly tourist sites.
27. Boston, MA – Boston Tea Party Museum: After spending the night in the Boston Children’s Museum, Holden A. Book checked out the new and improved Boston Tea Party Museum to learn about this important event in America’s Revolution.
28. Boston, MA – USS Constitution: Fifty years after the colonists throw tea off the decks of the Beaver, the Dartmouth, and the Eleanor, the USS Constitution (or Old Ironsides) played an integral role in keeping the peace between the US, Great Britain and Canada. Holden A. Book spent time in the “All Hands on Deck” exhibit before going back in time to…
29. Cambridge, MA -Longfellow House: More than just the home of poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, the Longfellow House served as the headquarters of General George Washington during the Boston defensive in the US Revolutionary War. Holden A. Book peeked in, and then headed to Harvard Square to grab the bus so he could get to…
30. Boston, MA – Fenway Park: Across the Charles River into Kenmore Square on the bus, Holden A. Book arrived in time for a quick tour of Fenway Park and a legendary Fenway Frank for lunch.
31. Boston, MA – TD Garden: Football, soccer, baseball – now basketball and hockey! Holden A. Book popped into the Boston home of the Celtics and the Bruins. Unfortunately the zamboni was out for service so he couldn’t get the ride he hoped for. Holden A. Book gives thanks to TD Bank for sponsoring the stadium AND for sponsoring Raising A Reader MA’s November 15th breakfast event, “Celebrating Reading, Family-Style.”
32. Boston, MA – Boston Public Garden: Five days of running around had just about come to an end, and Holden A. Book was tired. He hobbled over to the Boston Public Garden at sat on a bench overlooping Nancy Schoen’s Make Way for Ducklings status. He pulled out his copy of the Caldecott Medal winning book by Robert McCloskey and read for a few moments.
33. Boston, MA – Boston Duck Tour: “Boy,” thought Holden, “The combination of ducks and sitting sure did feel great! Think I’ll wrap up my visit with a Duck Tour!” So he paid his fare and boarded an amphibious vehicle for an 80-minute tour of Boston by land and by sea.
34. Boston, MA – Copley Plaza: Holden A. Book disembarked from the Duck Tour at Boston’ Prudential and wandered into Copley Plaza, where the team from the Boston Book Festival were putting the finishing touches on the exhibit hall in the plaza. He thought to himself. “Hooray! I can’t wait to hear Lemony Snicket give the Kids Keynote at 11:00 AM, visit with Llama Llama at 12:30 and then Frog AND Toad at 2:00. Guess I need to rest up for the big day.” So he poured himself into bed and dreamed of books and stories.
Look for Holden A. Book tomorrow, October 27th, at the Boston Book Festival. When he isn’t catching Lemony Snicket’s Kid Keynote, or listening to story time, he’ll be wandering the exhibit grounds. If you see him, ask him where you can find Raising A Reader MA’s booth where you can get a sticker with his picture on it!
