Raising A Reader MA talks with VIP Author Hank Phillippi Ryan

Members of the Raising A Reader MA staff secretly love reading the Proust Questionnaire in the back of Vanity Fair. We decided to share our own version of this personality test with Hank Phillippi Ryan (The Other Woman, 2012 and Drive Time, 2011) and the other VIP Authors attending our 2013 Dinner with an Author fundraising event at the Hampshire House.

What is your favorite book?   Winter’s Tale  by Mark Helprin

Who is your favorite fictional hero or heroine?   Sherlock Holmes, Atticus FHank Phillippi Ryan Head Shotinch, Inspector Morse

Who is your favorite real life hero or heroine?   Amelia Earhart, Christa McAuliffe

If you could have dinner with one author, living or dead, who would it be?   Shakespeare or Stephen King. They are genius

storytellers. Or maybe Stephen Sondheim, just to watch him think!

If you could choose one place to live for the rest of your life, where would it be?  Paris or Boston. (Or do you mean “place”

like – in happiness and contentment? I’d choose there.)

What is your motto?  You never know.

What talent would you most like to have?   Being invisible. No – teleportation.  A real one? Not counting being a brilliant writer? Playing the piano.

What was your proudest moment? My books. I still get misty when I see them in a library or a bookstore. But my news reporting has changed laws – so that’s also pretty great. Does a happy marriage count too?

What do you think is the most overrated virtue?  They’re all actually pretty good. But I’d say patience is UNDERrated.
