From Strategies for Children: Third Grade Reading Bill Has Become Law in MA!

Our friends at Strategies for Children just reminded us via email that yesterday, September 26, 2012, Governor Deval Patrick signed H. 4243, An Act Relative to Third Grade Reading Proficiency, into law at the Robin Hood Elementary School in Stoneham. He was joined by state education, policy, advocacy, and legislative leaders- including the lead senate and house bill co-sponsors Senator Katherine Clark and Representative Martha Walz, as well as Co-Chair of the Joint Education Committee Representative Alice Peisch. Early Education and Care Commissioner Sherri Killins and Undersecretary of Education Tom Webber also attended. This important legislation will help strengthen and streamline early literacy initiatives in the Commonwealth.

It is because of our shared advocacy on behalf of young children that this legislation has been signed into law. Click here to read more from Strategies for Children about yesterday’s event.
