Passing Raising A Reader Milestones in Everett

Raising A Reader and the Adams School families had many reasons to celebrate the week of March 5th 2012.

The afternoon classrooms finally started receiving the Raising A Reader Red Bags. Due to resource limitations, those families have been participating in the Raising A Reader MA monthly workshop since October 2011, and have been waiting anxiously for the first time the red bags would visit their homes.

The morning families, after a very successful fall of red bag rotation, received a very special gift: their own Blue Library Bag.

During that week RAR hosted four workshop sessions at Adams School, in order to accomodate families’ different schedules and language background. The theme as: “Recall and Prediction during story time”, and the attendance was a success. For the first time we had 60% of all Spanish speaking families of a single school attending an Interactive Reading workshop.

Finally, on Friday, 3/8, the Everett Public Library joined RAR for the Blue Bag give away morning. Ellen Van Dalinda, the Everett Children’s Librarian, visited the Adams School to bring a wonderful opportunity to Adams families: they were able to register for their first Library Card! All families left the school that week with an appointment to visit the Library and received their Library Card on the following week.
