DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Development Director will manage donor relations and communications with individuals, corporations, foundations, and local government, identifying new partnerships and funding sources while building critical public awareness of the RAR MA name and mission. As a member of the Executive Team, the Development Director will advance individual and corporate engagement through a program of special events, donor cultivation, personal interactions, and compelling communications. The Development Director of RAR MA will have a unique opportunity to build the capacity of a young, dynamic organization poised for significant growth. This position reports to the Executive Director of Raising A Reader MA.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fund Development:
- Research and pursue philanthropic, government, corporate, and educational funding opportunities to meet development goals.
- Prepare grant proposals, and mange all reporting and other requirements of grants received.
- Create and implement new strategies to fill our individual donor pipeline.
- In concert with the ED, cultivate, manage, and steward relationships with all donors and prospects including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
- Manage the Board’s Development Committee, and work closely with this committee to plan strategy and reach fundraising goals.
- Donor Management:
- Maintain accurate and up to date donor tracking information in Salesforce and related development files.
- Event Management and Administration:
- Design and implement engaging donor cultivation opportunities and oversee all aspects of our signature events, the Goodnight Moon Gala and the Rodman Ride for Kids.
- Oversee all event logistics including the design and production of program materials, budget and revenue goals, and volunteer training and recruitment.
- Communications and Marketing:
- Steer the communications and marketing efforts of the organization to ensure that key messages are conveyed strategically to a broad audience including individuals, corporate sponsors, foundation leaders, media, and government officials.
- Oversee the design, production and use of all written and electronic communications for development and marketing purposes, including newsletters, web site, press releases, and collateral materials.
QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:
- 6+ years experience with demonstrated initiative and achievement in nonprofit development.
- Proven track record in fundraising, grant writing, research and solicitation of institutional foundations, and corporate grants and sponsorships.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, affinity for networking, and high level of confidence and poise in front of others.
- Excellent ability to write and edit persuasive materials including grant proposals, informational brochures, and electronic communications.
- Exceptional time management, project management and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and effectively without close supervision.
- Willingness to function effectively as a member of a team, and to participate in activities that will contribute to the overall success of an entrepreneurial, quickly growing nonprofit program.
- Appreciation of the literacy mission of RAR MA and the ability to market family literacy effectively and with enthusiasm.
- Solid computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required; graduate degree preferred.

Raising A Reader MA

PROGRAM COORDINATOR
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Raising A Reader MA Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing the Raising A Reader program in a specific region of the state, meeting program goals and managing a caseload of 200+ program sites.
Reports to the Program Director, Raising A Reader MA.
Positions are open in Chelsea/Revere, Lowell, and Brockton.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate program implementation in select communities, providing early literacy training and on-going support for program participants (early childhood professionals and parents) and community stakeholders.
- Put into practice a timeline for program development and implementation.
- Support program evaluation strategies and track necessary data.
- Work with all children’s councils/associations to assure coordination and efficient dissemination of program information.
- Promote program participation in the community; interface with local libraries and children’s librarians.
- Ensure program goals are met.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING:
- Familiarity with community (Chelsea/Revere, Brockton, or Lowell) preferred.
- 3+ years experience in early childhood development, education or social services.
- A strong interest in education and early literacy
- Training and marketing abilities, leadership skills, public speaking experience.
- Problem solving ability, specifically related to project implementation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity and comfort with technology applications.
- Strong administrative capabilities, organizational skills and ability to multitask.
- Exceptional ability to work effectively with people representing the diverse cultures.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Car and valid driver’s license.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Human Services, or other related field.

DEVELOPMENT INTERN
Reports to: Development Director
Summary:
In addition to general office/nonprofit experience, this internship position will provide the student with experience in the realm of the development department and special project fundraising, prospect research, relationship building and solicitation. It will also teach the fundamentals of client cultivation and retention. The intern will help in many facets of strategic development including, but not limited to, research, proposal writing, letter writing, cold calling and sales presentation collaborations and materials.
Possible internship projects include:
- assisting in the development and implementation of collateral materials for corporate and individual sponsorship.
- assisting in maintaining client database (Salesforce) and files.
- calling potential and/or current donors.
- assisting in writing fund-raising letters.
- providing ongoing communication with new and existing client needs.
- implementing ideas for potential, core, and lapsed donors.
- providing support at RAR MA and outside events as needed.
- maintaining positive relations with staff, volunteers, visitors and clients.
- assisting with general Development Department and office projects, including, but not limited to, copying, filing, mail merges, and data entry
- maintaining punctual arrival times.
