Happy Lunar New Year!

This week, we are featuring books and activities relating to lunar new year (which started yesterday)!

Go check it out at your local library or buy it here on Amazon Smile! (If you select Raising A Reader MA as your favorite charity, Amazon will donate 0.5% of your purchase price to us.)

Not only is this book great for exposing your children to the Chinese culture, it is also great to teaching different colors to them!

After reading this book, extend the conversation with some of these following activities that we have found for you!

Extension Activities:

  1. Craft! Try making a dragon puppet or two and use them to have conversations with your child about Chinese culture! Alternatively, how about these lanterns and fans to use as decorations around the house?
  2. Eat! Go explore Chinatown and try some dim sum! Some of our staff have tried Empire Garden. Don’t want to brave the cold? Here’s a dumpling recipe you can try at home! You can have your child help you put the fillings in.
  3. Visit! Did you know that there are a lot of free events around Boston celebrating Chinese New Year? Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center (BCNC) just released this awesome list!
