Volunteer With Raising a Reader MA
Raising A Reader MA works with volunteers each year to bring books, early literacy, and family engagement programs to children and families in high-need communities. Volunteers directly contribute to children’s literacy success. So join us and become a Raising A Reader MA volunteer today.
Numerous opportunities exist for volunteers, including:
Outreach Volunteer – Boston area
Raising A Reader MA serves diverse communities. As such, we are in need of bilingual volunteers who can translate outreach materials and call parents about upcoming community events. Some of our high-demand languages include Haitian-Creole, Portuguese, Arabic, Mandarin, and Cantonese. Other outreach responsibilities, such as interpretation, may be assigned according to interest and/or need. Please contact Cate Johnston to learn about opportunities in Chelsea and Revere, and Suzanne Igarteburu to learn about opportunities in Everett, Malden, and Medford.
Event Volunteer Supporter – Boston area **
Raising A Reader MA is looking for event support volunteers to help us at parent workshops and community tabling events in a number of capacities. We are looking for volunteers who can provide on-site childcare, collect sign-in information, and assist with set-up. Consider this position if you are outgoing and comfortable supervising children. Bilingual ability is a plus! Please contact Cate Johnston to learn about opportunities in Chelsea and Revere, and Suzanne Igarteburu to learn about opportunities in Everett, Malden, and Medford.
Much of our work relies on our ability to assess the impact of our services. In order to do this we are constantly collecting survey’s and data on participation in our program. We are looking for volunteers who can assist in data entry into our online database system. Volunteers can work out of our main office or coordinate with a program manager in a specific community. Please contact Sara DeMedeiros to learn about data entry opportunities.
** Volunteers in these positions will be required to complete and pass a Criminal Background Check.
There are often one-time volunteer opportunities to help RAR MA staff in various capacities, such as sorting books, data entry, and other tasks. We are also open to new ideas if you have particular skills and abilities that are applicable to our work. We look forward to hearing from you!
